Biokleen vs. Norwex

I am a big proponent of stewardship, by choice and by necessity! So even though I sell Norwex, I also still buy Biokleen laundry detergent. It’s also a quality detergent free of fillers, harmful chemicals, scents, and dyes. But my recent snafoo with the ink stain, and seeing how much better the UPP detergent performed, made me want to do a deep dive comparing the cost of the two detergents.

I bought a 10lb box of biokleen from Frontier for $20, and a 2.2lb bag of UPP detergent for $30 retail (although I used my discount and got it for less). That’s a no brainer, right? Until I saw how much of each i needed to use per load. The directions for the UPP suggest 1 scoop, which is about a Tablespoon, but consensus among those who use it suggests 1- 1.5 TEASPOONS per load. The biokleen scoop is more like 1/8 cup, but perhaps you can use less? I haven’t tried. If ten pounds of Biokleen washes 150 loads, and (using 1.5 teaspoons) the Norwex detergent also cleans 150 loads…200 if you use 1 teaspoon, then why all the bulk?

I put the recommended amount of each in a jar to see what kinds of fillers we were dealing with- the UPP detergent on the left ended up much more transparent. And we are working with two GOOD clean products- can you imagine what fillers are in detergents that rhyme with HIDE? 🤨

So, in the end, the joke was on me. Fool me once, and all that. I can store 80% less product for the same price (with my discount or using perks from an order) and get a better product that works faster and more efficiently.
